Senior Mechanical Systems Licensing Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Onsite in Alameda, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Business travel of 25–35% is required, with occasional schedule flexibility and extended hours during critical project timelines.

Salary: $140,000–$166,000 annually for employees working onsite at the Alameda, California headquarters.

What you will do

• Develop licensing document content, programs, topical reports, and supporting activities for reactor facility systems, including the reactor vessel, decay heat removal system, inventory management system, and primary heat transport system.
• Lead assigned portions of license applications, including planning, development, execution, and defense activities.
• Prepare for and support pre-application interactions with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
• Develop licensing strategies and lead resolution of strategic regulatory issues involving reactor vessel design, material qualification, and related topics.
• Coordinate engineering, safety analysis, testing, and technology development activities to support regulatory requirements and safety documentation.
• Support project execution planning through schedules, milestones, cost models, decision criteria, and technical guidance for less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in facility or system engineering design, analysis, construction, qualification, testing, or implementation.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical system design, including analysis, qualification, and implementation of engineering solutions.
• Ability to interpret regulations, codes, standards, licensing commitments, and technical criteria and translate them into clear design, analysis, testing, and documentation requirements.
• Ability to prepare technically defensible license applications, topical reports, technical reports, regulatory correspondence, and presentation materials.
• Strong coordination, communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Mechanical or chemical engineering experience.
• Prior nuclear licensing experience; nuclear licensing experience is not required and training is provided.
• Experience evaluating, designing, and implementing new technologies.
