TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Fuels Program (Nuclear Energy): Designing, commissioning, and optimizing process equipment for TRISO annular fuel pebble fabrication with an accent on first-of-a-kind equipment, process integration, and safe industrial operations. Focus on integrating mechanical, electrical, controls, and software systems, solving complex equipment issues through root cause analysis, and improving automation and reliability.

Location: Onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Some travel may be required, below 5%.

What you will do

  • Design, build, test, commission, and operate prototype and first-of-a-kind equipment for TRISO annular fuel pebble fabrication.
  • Develop engineering calculations, process documentation, equipment specifications, test reports, SOPs, and maintenance documentation.
  • Integrate mechanical systems with electrical, controls, instrumentation, automation, and software systems.
  • Monitor equipment performance, improve reliability, troubleshoot complex issues, and lead root cause analyses and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate manufacturing and vendor activities, including equipment selection, procurement, manufacturability analysis, and installation.
  • Manage assigned project timelines, budgets, deliverables, safety reviews, design reviews, and team mentoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • 6+ years of relevant engineering experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, industrial, manufacturing, or comparable process-based environment.
  • Experience designing, developing, commissioning, or supporting mechanical and process equipment.
  • Experience creating Process Flow Diagrams, Heat and Material Balances, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, equipment lists, and utility consumption lists.
  • Experience working with hazardous processes and chemicals, including appropriate safety controls, PPE, and radiological or controlled environments.
  • Proficiency with CAD, SolidWorks, and engineering modeling software; ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering and operations teams.

Nice to have

  • Mechatronics or electromechanical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC, DCS, or SCADA-based process automation systems.
