TL;DR
Senior Flight Software Engineer (Spacecraft): Developing and testing flight software for spacecraft computers, integrating GNC algorithms, and building device drivers and communication libraries with an accent on low-level firmware, embedded RTOS platforms, and safety-critical systems. Focus on integrating complex onboard software, designing HITL/SITL subsystem simulators, and supporting command, telemetry, and mission sequencing for space applications.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado, or Long Beach, California, United States

Base salary: $155,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test flight software for spacecraft computers and processing units.
  • Integrate GNC algorithms with onboard flight software.
  • Define and maintain command and telemetry databases for ground, on-orbit testing, and missions.
  • Collaborate with the ground command-and-control software team.
  • Develop command scripting, spacecraft sequencing, and HITL/SITL subsystem model simulators.
  • Build reusable device drivers, hardware interfaces, and communication protocol libraries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of low-level firmware architecture, design, and development experience.
  • Experience with low-level device drivers and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS platforms such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Python, with familiarity with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, RS485, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, microcontrollers, application processors, debugging tools, compilers, and revision control systems.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR; must be able to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of flight software development or production experience for space applications.
  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, robotics, automation, motor control, or sensor fusion.
  • Strong debugging experience using oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.
