Solution System Architect

Location: Hybrid in Rockville, Maryland, or remote within CONUS (continental United States). Travel up to 10%.

Salary: $171,000–$187,000 per year, with potential additional compensation such as bonuses.

What you will do

• Translate VA stakeholder and operational needs into As-Is and To-Be architecture models using DoDAF and UAF.
• Develop Solution Architecture Packages, multi-year product roadmaps, product-specific data models, and interface documentation.
• Guide Agile delivery by defining solution-level epics, acceptance criteria, prototypes, and technical dependencies.
• Design contract-first integrations using REST/JSON APIs, HL7, FHIR, and event-driven messaging through a centralized integration platform.
• Partner with security and platform teams on interface approvals, ISAs, SLAs, cloud infrastructure, disaster recovery, and ATO documentation.
• Contribute to SAFe Architectural Runway, PI Planning, reusable architecture templates, proposals, innovation initiatives, and quality audits.

Requirements

• 8+ years of IT experience, including at least 4 years as a solution or systems architect on federal IT programs.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with DoDAF/UAF models, data flow diagrams, and Solution Architecture Packages.
• Experience architecting integrations across legacy systems, custom applications, SaaS platforms, and containerized cloud workloads.
• Strong knowledge of Agile/SAFe, security and cloud architecture, Zero Trust, ICAM/PIV, cloud migration, disaster recovery, and ATO boundaries.
• Familiarity with VA OIT governance, including TRM, VIP Guide, PLM Transformation Playbook, and VA Enterprise Architecture.
• Ability to obtain a VA PIV credential and pass a Tier 2 / Moderate Risk Background Investigation. Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field required; master's degree preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with VA supply chain and logistics products such as IFCAP and Maximo.
• Experience with Oracle Health EHR integrations and GS1/UDI master data standards.
• Certified SAFe Architect or SAFe Agilist with ARCH.
• Red Hat certification in cloud-native applications or OpenShift.
