Professional Services Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Durham, North Carolina, or remote within the United States for the right candidate. US citizenship is required. Customer-site work and up to 60% travel are required.

Base pay: $97,000–$120,000 annually in the United States, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Build, install, configure, verify, and troubleshoot complex computer and network systems.
• Deploy Penguin Computing solutions at customer sites, including racking, cabling, software installation, and systems configuration.
• Install and tune software applications and software-defined solutions.
• Test and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in Linux and HPC environments.
• Develop implementation documentation, training materials, and deployment procedures.
• Support technical sales opportunities, local repair engineers, and solution development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with UNIX/Linux server environments.
• Experience with Linux TCP/IP configuration, md and LVM software RAID, systemd, firewalld, and Kickstart.
• Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, customer service, and documentation skills.
• US citizenship is required, and the role requires working in the United States.
• Ability to travel up to 60% and lift or carry up to 30 pounds.

Nice to have

• RHCSA, SUSE Certified Engineer, or equivalent certification.
• Experience with Ansible or Puppet, Linux virtual machines, Ceph, Lustre, Cumulus, or Sonic.
• Experience with InfiniBand, Omni-Path Architecture, GPUs, HPC provisioning systems, Slurm, or PBS.
• Application build, installation, and configuration experience with the GNU toolchain.
• Security clearance or the ability to obtain US security clearance.
