Principal Software Engineer (IAM)

Location: San Francisco, California; the employee must be on US soil, including the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or US outlying areas.

Annual base salary: $224,000–$308,000 for candidates in California excluding the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington; $200,000–$275,000 for other stated locations. Equity, bonus, and benefits may also apply.

What you will do

• Own feature areas end to end, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring.
• Design, build, and ship production-ready features across the OIG access governance system.
• Improve system correctness, reliability, performance, scalability, and security for enterprise customers.
• Deliver bug fixes and resolve customer-reported issues.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code and uphold high engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering on scope, development, and deployment.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a senior or staff-level technical leadership role.
• Experience architecting and delivering large-scale distributed systems for enterprise customers.
• Deep expertise in microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and data modeling at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go, or equivalent JVM/cloud-native languages.
• Experience designing systems with multi-tenancy, high availability, audit logging, RBAC/ABAC, and other enterprise security requirements.
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with identity, access management, or identity governance products.
• Familiarity with workflow engines, finite state machines, or BPM-style approval and routing systems.
• Experience with enterprise SaaS platforms and cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Hands-on experience with modern observability tooling.
