Data Analyst (Entry-Level)

Location: Remote within the United States, or offices in New York City and Oakland, California. Travel to state partners within the continental USA is encouraged approximately once per year and may occasionally be required, including visits to prisons and parole offices.

What you will do

• Explore criminal justice datasets to identify patterns and insights across American justice systems.
• Carry out well-scoped analyses with guidance from senior analysts and the State Engagement team.
• Prepare analytical data for product launches across partner states and identify data discrepancies.
• Build clear, documented visualizations and dashboards using existing tools.
• Communicate findings to internal teams and present them to state partners alongside teammates.
• Analyze trends to evaluate how hirify.global products function and measure their impact.

Requirements

• At least 6 months of practical experience exploring, analyzing, and cleaning real-world datasets; internships, research, and qualifying part-time work count.
• Working proficiency in SQL, including joins, aggregations, and window functions.
• Familiarity with Python and Pandas for data analysis and visualization.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with care and curiosity when inspecting source data and checking results.
• Ability to work with government staff, researchers, journalists, technical staff, and criminal justice practitioners from diverse backgrounds.
• Remote hiring is limited to the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Interest in criminal justice or public policy, or experience with public-sector data.
• Experience with Looker, Tableau, or another BI and dashboarding tool.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Looker, Jupyter notebooks, or Python/Pandas.
