TL;DR
Risk Adjustment Consultant (Healthcare Coding): Reviewing medical records and validating Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial HCC, and DxCG coding with an accent on ICD-10-CM, CPT, CMS, and risk adjustment compliance. Focus on auditing provider documentation, identifying diagnosis gaps, analyzing coding trends, and delivering corrective recommendations and provider education.

Location: Fully remote

Salary: $72,371.94–$90,464.92 annually based on full-time equivalent

What you will do

  • Review and audit medical records for diagnosis and CPT coding accuracy across Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial HCC, and DxCG programs.
  • Validate provider documentation, authorized providers, face-to-face services, signatures, and other technical requirements.
  • Analyze audit findings, identify trends and diagnosis gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with internal leadership, network providers, and vendors on coding adjustments and risk adjustment contracts.
  • Provide coding guidance, training, and feedback to physicians and network providers.
  • Research regulatory issues, interpret CMS and coding guidelines, and present recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

  • Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), or ability to obtain the certification within the first 12 months of employment.
  • At least two years of outpatient billing, coding, and risk adjustment experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding standards, CPT coding, CMS guidelines, and outpatient risk adjustment requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to work in a sedentary professional office environment and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Associate’s degree.
  • CRC certification at the time of hire.
  • Experience with primary care adult medicine.
