TL;DR
Avionics Test Engineer, Hardware (Aerospace): Developing and integrating avionics test racks, FlatSats, testbeds, fixtures, and spacecraft hardware test infrastructure with an accent on hardware bring-up, interface validation, and flight hardware troubleshooting. Focus on designing test architectures, solving signal integrity and hardware anomalies, and improving test coverage, reliability, repeatability, and throughput.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; in-person work at the Playa Vista office

What you will do

  • Design, build, integrate, and maintain bus-level and component-level avionics test racks.
  • Develop FlatSats, avionics testbeds, EGSE, harnesses, emulators, fixtures, breakout boxes, and interface electronics.
  • Define test architectures and strategies with electrical, mechanical, RF, software, and systems engineering teams.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, interface validation, signal integrity troubleshooting, and end-to-end system checkout.
  • Use laboratory instrumentation to troubleshoot flight hardware, test setups, and hardware anomalies.
  • Support qualification, acceptance, regression, production, integration, and spacecraft-level testing while improving coverage and throughput.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in aerospace hardware, avionics, electronics, or integrated hardware testing.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation, hardware bring-up, integrated electrical systems, and complex test setups.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, interface control documents, and technical requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and independent issue-resolution skills.
  • Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder, in accordance with ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience testing spacecraft, launch vehicles, avionics, or other flight electronics.
  • Experience with harness design, test fixturing, environmental or vibration testing, and component qualification.
  • Experience with PCB design, prototype electronics, sensor testing, avionics channelization, or electrical interface validation.
  • Familiarity with CAN, RS-422/485, UART, SPI, I2C, or Ethernet.
  • Basic Python or scripting experience for test support, data collection, and automation.
