Senior Software Engineer (Scala)

Location: European Union; hybrid workplace with 100% remote work offered

What you will do

• Develop and support a high-performance GraphQL API and event gateway using Scala.
• Build mission-critical components for a retail energy platform and provide low-latency data access for global energy clients.
• Balance discovery and spike work, technical debt reduction, and core delivery tasks.
• Participate in agile planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate on platform health reviews, post-mortems, and shared-service improvements.
• Manage Kubernetes deployments using Infrastructure as Code.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend software development experience.
• Strong professional experience with Scala.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform.
• Experience with GraphQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB.
• Ability to independently solve complex problems and contribute through pair programming and peer reviews.

Nice to have

• Kafka and Avro experience for event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with AWS components, monitoring tools, and Kubernetes-hosted environments.
• Knowledge of SRE concepts, disaster recovery, and platform health monitoring.
• Experience with software design, service architecture, or technical options analysis.
