Senior Electric Propulsion Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, California, USA; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office.

What you will do

• Design electric propulsion system architectures, product specifications, and technical performance metrics, including power and mass budgets.
• Define propulsion-system placement and integration across spacecraft subsystems such as electrical, thermal, and structural systems.
• Design high-pressure fluidic systems, instrumentation, and control components, including tanks, regulators, sensors, thermocouples, and solenoid valves.
• Develop qualification and acceptance test plans and support vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, leak, and related environmental testing.
• Document manufacturing work instructions, process flows, assembly, integration, and test procedures while applying design-for-manufacturability practices.
• Lead anomaly investigations, supplier and component trade studies, requirements verification, process hazard analyses, and customer or vendor technical interactions.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required to access export-controlled data.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electric propulsion, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of electric propulsion design and test experience.
• Experience handling and testing pressurized systems and designing fluidic systems, instrumentation, and control components.
• Strong knowledge of propulsion, spacecraft systems, and range-safety requirements, including SSCMAN 91-710.
• Experience with NX or SolidWorks CAD software and manufacturing in clean environments under AS9100 protocols.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, electric propulsion, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience operating leak, burst, and proof-test facilities.
• Experience leading electric-propulsion hot-fire test campaigns, including high-voltage power, fluid delivery, data acquisition, thrust-stand, and plasma-diagnostics systems.
• Experience with electric-propulsion operations in space.
