TL;DR
Development Engineer II (Aerospace): Designing, testing, and refining Electron propulsion hardware, including engines, turbopumps, valves, injectors, and fluid systems, with an accent on end-to-end product development and manufacturing readiness. Focus on owning requirements and EBOMs, releasing production drawings, planning component and hot-fire test campaigns, and supporting hardware through operation.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; onsite engineering and production-floor work

What you will do

  • Design and specify Electron propulsion hardware, including engines, turbopumps, valves, injectors, and fluid systems.
  • Define requirements, iterate designs in NX, and collaborate with analysis and manufacturing engineers.
  • Own the EBOM and workflow, release production drawings, and apply design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Plan and execute test campaigns from component rigs through hot-fire testing.
  • Provide product lifecycle support, including defining how hardware is operated and maintained.
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews and work with technicians, production teams, and development laboratories.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree and at least 2 years of industry experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with high-volume production.
  • Ownership of an engineering project from concept through design, build, testing, and operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems and transfer experience across domains.
  • Eligibility to access equipment and data regulated by U.S. ITAR is required for New Zealand-based work; nationality checks and background checks will be completed before an offer.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or PhD.
  • Rocket, aerospace, or automotive experience.
  • Applied analysis experience in structural, modal, CFD, thermal, fatigue, DFMEA/PFMEA, or DMAIC methods.
  • Experience with NX, Teamcenter, JAMA, Jira, or equivalent tools.
