What you will do

• Support a British Heart Foundation-funded project on mitochondrial quality control during the early stages of type 2 diabetes.
• Define molecular mechanisms behind defects in mitochondrial structure and function and the development of diabetic heart failure.
• Evaluate novel therapeutic strategies and investigate biomarkers and molecular signatures for patient stratification.
• Conduct experimental research using cardiomyocyte biology, in-vivo small animal models, mammalian cell culture, and molecular and cell biology methods.
• Investigate signalling pathways using genetic and pharmacological approaches within a multidisciplinary research team.

Requirements

• Postdoctoral research background in cardiovascular biology, cell biology, molecular biology, mitochondrial biology, or a related discipline.
• Essential experience in cardiomyocyte biology, in-vivo small animal models and/or mammalian cell culture.
• Experience with molecular and cell biology and mechanistic investigation of signalling pathways using genetic and/or pharmacological approaches.
• Excellent experimental, organisational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Nice to have

• Experience analysing mitochondrial function.
• Experience with advanced imaging.
• Experience conducting therapeutic intervention studies.
