Staff Software Engineer, Core Applications (P4)

Location: Ottawa, Canada; hybrid work. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or eligible to work in Canada and must complete a criminal records check upon hire.

Salary: CAD 138,445–173,056 per year.

What you will do

• Build and improve customer-facing features across React/TypeScript web and React Native/Expo mobile applications.
• Own features end to end, from product and design collaboration through API design, implementation, testing, release, and production monitoring.
• Design and build NestJS/TypeScript APIs powering web and mobile experiences.
• Set technical direction across web, mobile, and API layers while documenting scalable architecture decisions.
• Improve application stability, performance, UX, and code quality through proactive problem solving, reviews, and refactoring.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate strategically with product, design, and cross-functional partners.

Requirements

• Strong production experience with TypeScript and React on a mature, customer-facing product.
• Full-stack ownership, including REST APIs, PostgreSQL, Redis, and tracing issues across UI, API, and database layers.
• Experience setting end-to-end system architecture across web, mobile, and API platforms.
• Understanding of web and mobile performance trade-offs, product development, and technical decision-making.
• Active use of AI tools for coding, debugging, code review, research, and development acceleration.
• Canadian citizenship or eligibility to work in Canada, plus successful completion of a criminal records check.

Nice to have

• Hands-on React Native experience and understanding of web versus native rendering.
• Experience with video streaming, security camera systems, or POS and retail technology.
• Automated testing with Jest, Detox, Playwright, or similar tools.
• Mobile CI/CD, App Store or Play Store release pipelines, and AI-powered product features.
• NestJS or other Node.js backend framework experience.
