Senior QA Automation Test Engineer (Java)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; four days in the office

Salary: $121,550–$157,300 per year, plus potential annual incentive compensation and long-term equity participation.

What you will do

• Define platform-wide QA strategy, quality standards, release confidence, coverage expectations, and escaped-defect targets.
• Design and build automated test frameworks across UI, API, and integration layers using Java-based tooling.
• Validate end-to-end clearing workflows covering trade processing, margin, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Build reproducible test data and environments while ensuring data accuracy across distributed systems.
• Embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and document test strategies and coverage decisions.
• Mentor engineers and partner with development teams to design solutions for testability.

Requirements

• 7+ years of quality assurance experience with a strong automation focus.
• Hands-on experience with Cucumber, Selenium, or Playwright and API testing using RestAssured, Postman, or an equivalent.
• Strong Java skills with the ability to architect, build, and extend test frameworks.
• Experience with test strategies, test plans, test cases, smoke, regression, functional, and integration testing.
• Knowledge of relational databases, SQL queries, object-oriented and functional programming, design patterns, and data modeling.
• Proven leadership and mentorship of junior engineers; bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-powered testing tools, FIX, Kafka, clearing or trading systems, or testing-team planning.
• Python, Docker or Podman, AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Linux, GitHub Actions, Helm, or ArgoCD.
• Performance, resiliency, failover, business continuity, and disaster recovery testing experience.
