Senior Backend Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: New York, NY; on-site. U.S. citizenship required; some positions may require eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance, but no active clearance is required for this role.

Base salary: $192,000–$281,000 annually. Estimated total compensation: $281,000–$455,000, including target bonus and estimated equity value.

What you will do

• Architect and build high-throughput backend services processing real-time operational data.
• Design resilient, observable, performance-tuned event-driven and distributed systems across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Define stable APIs and collaborate with frontend, product, and operations partners to deliver technical capabilities.
• Improve engineering standards through code reviews, testing strategy, CI/CD, incident practices, and technical design reviews.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues, lead incident response, and drive durable fixes.
• Contribute to technical strategy, roadmap planning, hiring, and engineer mentorship.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building scalable backend systems in production.
• 4+ years of Go experience, or equivalent server-side experience with Java, Kotlin, C#, Python, C, C++, or Rust, combined with strong system design skills.
• Experience leading technical initiatives end-to-end, designing distributed systems, and operating cloud-native services in production; AWS experience is preferred.
• Strong security fundamentals, including secure coding, threat modeling, and defensible design.
• Experience mentoring engineers and communicating technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j or AWS Neptune and relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL, or MariaDB.
• Background in defense, intelligence, or security-focused products with real operational users.
• Experience with large-scale data processing, streaming, near-real-time analytics, or production ML/AI integrations.
• Open-source contributions or personal projects demonstrating strong engineering craft.
