Accounting Manager (Insurance)

What you will do

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, agency billing, commission revenue reporting, and reconciliations.
• Supervise, coach, and support a small accounting team along with external and overseas resources.
• Prepare premium payable worksheets, journal entries, trial balances, general ledger reports, bond lists, renewal reports, and management reports.
• Reconcile bank statements, arrange wires and ACH payments, and maintain banking relationships with the treasury function.
• Review renewals, invoices, releases, cancellations, and complex insurance accounting transactions.
• Maintain accounting controls, perform quality reviews, identify financial risks, and improve operational processes.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of accounting experience with supervisory responsibility; 4 years of accounting experience including receivables and payables is also specified.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, revenue reporting, and operational and financial accounting.
• Experience coordinating with carriers to resolve accounting and commission discrepancies.
• Ability to supervise, mentor, and support accounting staff and consultants.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, administrative, and process improvement skills.
• Familiarity with insurance management systems and a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field are preferred.

• Insurance agency, brokerage, or related industry accounting experience.
