Research Assistant II (Agricultural Research)

Location: MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center, Sidney, Montana, United States. On-site field, greenhouse, and laboratory work is required, with occasional in- and out-of-state overnight travel.

Salary: $20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Support on- and off-station cereal and pulse variety trials and related research projects.
• Package and organize seeds, plant field plots, operate a tractor or planter, apply fertilizer, and control weeds.
• Collect and process soil and plant samples in laboratory settings.
• Measure grain quality parameters and record and enter research data.
• Clean and maintain research grounds and facilities and assist with additional projects as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Knowledge and experience organizing field and greenhouse experiments.
• Knowledge and experience processing soil and plant samples in a laboratory.
• Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work in Montana’s climate and field environment, tolerate dust, insects, and fungus, and move seeds and samples weighing up to 50 pounds.
• This position is not eligible for new sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of statistical analysis.
• Experience operating small farm equipment.
