Research Associate (Wildlife and Rangeland Management)

Location: College Station, Texas, with frequent travel to study locations across Texas; work includes remote field locations, working ranches, livestock operations, and adverse outdoor conditions.

What you will do

• Support applied research on wild pig damage mitigation and exclusion fencing.
• Identify study sites, collect baseline data, maintain corn feeders, and build small exclusion fences and research plots.
• Monitor animal activity with remotely triggered cameras and review and assimilate photo and video data.
• Design and implement exclusion methods with project collaborators in livestock operations.
• Coordinate with landowners, ranchers, biologists, managers, and other project partners.
• Enter data, write reports, and travel to multiple field locations across Texas.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• At least two years of related professional experience.
• Ability to work in remote field locations and on working ranches under hot, humid, and otherwise adverse conditions.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision, plan daily activities, and multitask.
• Ability to analyze data, write reports, and communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
• Strong work ethic, self-motivation, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new skills and techniques.

Nice to have

• M.S. degree in rangeland management, natural resource management, or a closely related field.
• Experience with ranching, wildlife, rangeland management, producers, or field activity coordination.
• Experience building fences and operating four-wheel-drive vehicles, ATVs, UTVs, tractors, farm machinery, and trailers.
• Technical writing experience.
