TL;DR
Cloud Operations Engineer (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud): Building and operating enterprise-grade, multi-tenant cloud platform services across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud for NASA applications with an accent on managed Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD automation. Focus on integrating AI and data services with Kubernetes applications, creating reusable platform services, and meeting security and compliance requirements for human spaceflight missions.

Location: Clear Lake, 2101 E NASA Pkwy, Houston, TX 77058, USA. Full-time onsite role supporting NASA Johnson Space Center. The schedule includes a 9/80 arrangement with every other Friday off when applicable.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate enterprise-grade, multi-tenant cloud platform services across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Develop cloud-native platform services and administer NASA cloud networks for COTS and cloud-native application deployments.
  • Operate and troubleshoot managed Kubernetes environments, including EKS, AKS, and GKE.
  • Integrate cloud-managed AI and data services with bespoke and open-source Kubernetes applications.
  • Build infrastructure automation and CI/CD solutions, write production-quality code, and conduct code reviews.
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to apply cloud-native best practices and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Production experience operating and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters, preferably EKS, AKS, or GKE.
  • Proficiency with Terraform or OpenTofu and hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD.
  • Typically, a bachelor's degree or equivalent certification and 10–15 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive Linux experience and expert-level proficiency in at least one programming language; Go or Python is preferred.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana and Apache Superset.
  • Ability to work onsite in Houston and obtain and maintain a U.S. Government background investigation, as required for most federal-contractor positions.

Nice to have

  • Experience architecting cloud-native applications across multiple major cloud providers.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning model lifecycle management and MLOps.
  • Experience with R and NASA or federal security mechanisms such as ATOs, POA&Ms, and risk assessments.
  • Experience owning projects from requirements through operations and identifying opportunities for abstraction and reuse.
