TL;DR
Associate Software Engineer (Medical Devices): Developing, testing, and releasing production-quality software for musculoskeletal medical products with an accent on clinical needs, software quality, and regulated-device documentation. Focus on integrating software with applications, interfaces, services, data, algorithms, devices, or firmware while validating AI-assisted development outputs and supporting cybersecurity processes.

Location: Audubon, Pennsylvania, United States; ability to travel up to 10% and attend laboratory sessions, surgeries, customer observations, or field activities as required.

What you will do

  • Translate clinical, user, and product needs into software behavior, designs, interfaces, and verification approaches.
  • Design, implement, debug, and test production-quality software using established engineering practices.
  • Develop prototypes and proofs of concept to evaluate product and technical ideas.
  • Integrate software with adjacent product components and systems.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, testing, release activities, and medical-device software documentation.
  • Collaborate with clinical, product, systems, UX, quality, and engineering specialists while communicating technical decisions, progress, and risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another technical field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Experience designing, implementing, debugging, and testing software in at least one appropriate programming language.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools for software design, implementation, testing, debugging, or documentation, with independent validation of outputs.
  • Working knowledge of software design, source control, code review, and automated testing.
  • Ability to solve technical problems, learn unfamiliar software systems, and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with compliance with applicable security, confidentiality, quality, and cybersecurity requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing software for medical devices, robotics, navigation, imaging, surgical systems, or another regulated or safety-critical industry.
  • Experience with application, UI, service, data, algorithm, device, firmware, or test technologies.
  • Familiarity with medical-device software development, design controls, or risk management.
  • Experience working with clinical users, customers, service teams, or other end users.
  • Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring.
