AI/ML Software Engineer (Satellite Operations)

Location: Hybrid onsite role based in the Herndon, Virginia or Westminster, Colorado office, with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Candidates must be U.S. persons and U.S. citizens are explicitly required.

Salary: $105,000–$140,000–$154,000 annually in Colorado; $116,000–$154,000–$169,400 annually in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Other states use location-specific market ranges.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable reinforcement learning, optimization, and decision-making algorithms for satellite sensor and constellation tasking.
• Build high-fidelity simulation and evaluation environments for autonomous planning strategies.
• Develop multi-objective optimization pipelines balancing coverage, revisit rate, latency, resource utilization, revenue, and mission success.
• Translate mission requirements into deployable AI systems with aerospace engineers, mission operators, software engineers, and product teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a strongly related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience with recent use of modern AI-assisted technologies.
• Strong Java programming skills and experience with Spring Boot microservices.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including automated testing, CI/CD, version control, and containerized deployment.
• Experience developing machine learning or optimization systems.
• U.S. person status is required; the posting explicitly requires U.S. citizenship.

Nice to have

• Additional degrees or certifications in Data Science, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• Experience with orbital mechanics, satellite systems, remote sensing, mission operations, or collection planning.
• Experience with probabilistic modeling, uncertainty estimation, Bayesian optimization, GPU acceleration, distributed training, autonomous systems, or multi-agent planning.
