Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Decisioning)

Location: Remote Canada; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan

Base pay: CAD $181,000–$241,000 per year

What you will do

• Set technical strategy for the team and connect it to business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes that multiply team impact.
• Own system operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices.
• Establish code review and design standards, promote quality and ownership, and share technical guidance through writing and tech talks.
• Develop engineering talent through feedback, guidance, and technical leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Strong experience with Python or Kotlin and highly available distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Track record of delivering major features, system components, or deprecations through technical and execution planning.
• Ability to work from low-level language implementation details through large-system architecture and operate effectively in ambiguity.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
