Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Data Integration)

Location: Hybrid, based out of the Toronto or Oakland office with in-person attendance 2 days per week

Salary: $196,033–$245,041.50 USD annually

Fivetran and dbt Labs are building a data infrastructure platform that helps organizations move, transform, and trust data; the role is part of the former hirify.global Reverse ETL product, acquired by Fivetran.

What you will do

• Integrate data activation capabilities into Fivetran across authentication, billing, data models, UI, and related product areas.
• Contribute across the technology stack, including Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, Vue, and AWS.
• Design and develop features in collaboration with product leaders, customers, and engineering teams.
• Lead major projects from research spikes and design documents through implementation and rollout.
• Mentor early-career engineers, conduct constructive code reviews, and provide project-level technical leadership.
• Build, deploy, maintain, and operate backend systems and APIs, including on-call support.

Requirements

• Expertise in at least one interpreted language such as Python or Ruby on Rails.
• Hands-on experience with at least one compiled language such as C++, Kotlin, Scala, Go, or Java.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and experience with backend systems, APIs, and system integration.
• Familiarity with a leading cloud provider such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Ability to build, deploy, and maintain software end to end, and to work effectively in ambiguous environments.
• Availability for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration across North America and ability to work in person in Toronto or Oakland 2 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake.
• Experience with infrastructure management.
