Backend Engineer (Rust)

Location: Spain, Barcelona; remote work is available from home or a global hirify.global office.

What you will do

• Design, build, and improve backend data-acquisition systems handling nearly 200 million requests per day.
• Develop the in-house proxy layer and browser tooling, including request routing, connection handling, and protocol behavior.
• Investigate difficult crawler problems, test alternative approaches, and turn successful solutions into reusable systems.
• Build clear interfaces and guardrails for reliable use by other teams and AI agents.
• Maintain code quality through testing, observability, and maintainability, including code written with AI assistance.
• Collaborate with crawler engineers, DevOps, and Security to deliver secure and scalable infrastructure.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating production backend services in a cloud environment.
• Experience with Rust or C/C++, or strong backend experience in another language combined with motivation to develop deeply in Rust.
• Solid understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP, TLS, proxies, browsers, and network stacks.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, including packet captures, profilers, and source-code analysis.
• R&D mindset, curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, and a habit of validating hypotheses.
• Fluent English required. Clear communication and effective teamwork are also expected.
