Principal Software Development Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: Atlanta, Georgia, United States; hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Annual base salary: $182,400–$273,600 USD for the primary Atlanta location; additional U.S. locations may offer $173,300–$309,600 USD.

What you will do

• Build data ingestion, discoverability, governance, derivation, and serving capabilities.
• Support classic machine learning and agentic initiatives across hirify.global’s product portfolio.
• Design and deliver scalable data services and service endpoints for production use.
• Deploy and operate cloud-based services using AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and continuous integration.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production services, including on-call and production triage.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, distributed systems, or a related field, including 6+ years in data engineering or a related area.
• 6+ years of proficiency in at least two of Java, Scala, and Python.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and managed services, including AWS or GCP.
• Experience with at least one of Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, Apache Avro, Apache Kafka, or Apache Flink.
• Knowledge of testing, performance, security, availability, deployment, operations, and production ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Hive, or similar logging, monitoring, and metrics technologies.
• Experience with operating system concepts, concurrency, networking, memory, storage, and process management.
