Software Engineer I (Java/AI)

Location: Remote-first with periodic in-person gatherings; candidates must be within a generally one-hour commutable distance of an office hub in London, Oxford, Krakow, or Lisbon.

What you will do

• Participate in the full software lifecycle, from design and coding through testing and deployment.
• Release production code frequently as part of the Experiences Engineering team.
• Build full-stack features using Java, SQL, React, AWS, and AI coding tools.
• Design clean, readable solutions with automated unit and integration testing.
• Collaborate with product, design, and data specialists through design reviews and feedback.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of experience, typically following a Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science.
• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with web application development and at least one backend language, such as Java, C#, Go, or Python.
• Basic understanding of relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Comfort coding with Cursor, Codex, Claude, or Open Code and willingness to work in the Java ecosystem.
• Ability to attend periodic in-person gatherings and live within commuting distance of London, Oxford, Krakow, or Lisbon.

Nice to have

• Exposure to AWS, React, or NoSQL databases.
• Experience completing coding interview exercises in any programming language.
