Senior Privacy Counsel (Cybersecurity)

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; hybrid with attendance at the office three days per week

What you will do

• Lead legal support for global cybersecurity incidents, including breach assessments, regulatory notifications, and incident response strategy.
• Monitor and interpret emerging privacy, cybersecurity, and data regulations, including requirements related to AI, biometrics, and breach notification.
• Conduct horizon scanning and gap analysis, translating new legal obligations into actionable compliance programs.
• Partner with Security on vendor risk assessments, audits, and compliance frameworks.
• Advise product and engineering teams on privacy-by-design, data flows, APIs, SDKs, and AI/ML-enabled features.
• Develop legal guidance, policies, playbooks, and support for audits and cross-functional privacy governance.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with a law degree and British Columbia bar admission.
• 5+ years of legal experience focused on privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and/or technology law.
• Hands-on experience advising on cybersecurity incident response and regulatory notifications across multiple jurisdictions.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, PIPEDA, and US state privacy and cybersecurity laws.
• Ability to understand digital products, data flows, APIs, SDKs, and AI/ML, and communicate effectively with technical and product teams.
• IAPP certifications and the ability to apply AI tools in legal work.
