Staff ML Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote USA

Base salary: $130,000–$190,000 per year, plus benefits and eligibility for a discretionary bonus or commission.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy production-ready AI agents and agentic workflows for enterprise applications and business processes.
• Develop evaluation, monitoring, guardrail, safety, testing, versioning, and observability frameworks for LLM-powered applications.
• Architect AI capabilities within a Java/Spring platform and distributed microservices ecosystem.
• Drive architectural decisions across AI services, APIs, microservices, and enterprise integrations.
• Collaborate with AI Scientists, ML Engineers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to productionize models.
• Mentor engineers, lead architectural reviews, and influence technical strategy across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including complex technical initiatives in distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
• Experience architecting and deploying enterprise-scale AI agents, agentic workflows, and LLM-powered applications.
• Knowledge of RAG, tool calling, MCP, prompt engineering, agent orchestration, observability, CI/CD, automated testing, and production operations.
• Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and cross-functional technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks, vector search, embedding models, conversational AI, and AI agent evaluation.
• Experience building AI infrastructure, developer tooling, and platform capabilities.
• Experience with cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, and containerized deployments.
• Familiarity with model serving, inference optimization, caching, and cost optimization.
