Founding Design Engineer (React)

Location: New York City, hybrid; four days per week in the Herald Square office and one day remote. Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.

Salary: $140,000–$185,000 per year, plus 0.4%–0.7% equity.

What you will do

• Own the design of the entire product, including layouts, workflows, interface copy, and user communications.
• Design and build projects end to end, from the user interface through the database.
• Set the design quality bar and guide engineering work from early scoping through final polish.
• Identify confusing or inefficient customer workflows and build clearer solutions.
• Establish reusable components, design patterns, and copy standards.
• Talk directly with school owners and front-desk staff to uncover product problems and validate solutions.

Requirements

• Four or more years of experience designing and building software products.
• Full-stack ability with React, Next, Node, and Postgres, including using AI to ship features and reviewing AI-generated code.
• Strong product judgment and the ability to simplify complex operational workflows.
• Careful attention to labels, error messages, empty states, and parent emails.
• Comfort working with ambiguity and researching problems directly with customers.
• Current authorization to work full-time in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is not available.

• Experience as the first or only designer at a company.

Hiring process

• 30-minute introductory meeting on Zoom.
• 60-minute design interview covering a product walkthrough, portfolio critique, and a real hirify.global screen diagnosis.
• 45-minute technical screen, followed by an onsite interview day in New York City.
