TL;DR
Systems Engineer Intern (Aerospace): Supporting propulsion-drive engineering through reliability modeling, failure analysis, risk identification, and system safety evaluations with an accent on FMEA/FMECA, fault tree analysis, and statistical analysis. Focus on identifying single-point failures, analyzing mechanical and electrical assembly defects, reviewing reliability test data, and documenting risk mitigation strategies.

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States. Travel of up to 15% is required.

What you will do

  • Support risk analysis, system reliability, maintainability evaluations, and system safety initiatives.
  • Assist with FMEA/FMECA and fault tree analyses for complex systems and components.
  • Develop and analyze reliability models using historical failure rates and test data.
  • Review reliability test plans, reports, environmental test data, qualification protocols, and acceptance criteria.
  • Support root-cause failure analysis, defect reporting, failure trending, and identification of single-point failures.
  • Document reliability models, technical risk assessments, standard procedures, and mitigation strategies while participating in engineering reviews and technical meetings.

Requirements

  • Be a junior or higher currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understand fundamental reliability engineering, risk analysis, and system safety concepts.
  • Be familiar with probability, statistical methods, and engineering data analysis.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials.
  • Prepare clear technical reports and perform routine mathematical and statistical calculations.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance.
