Payroll Manager (AEC)

Location: Hybrid in Kansas City, Missouri, USA; three days per week in the office

What you will do

• Lead accurate, timely, and compliant multi-state payroll operations, including payroll calendars, reconciliations, year-end activities, and PTO administration.
• Manage and develop payroll personnel while establishing service standards, workflows, controls, and operating procedures.
• Own payroll tax compliance, wage and hour requirements, garnishments, audits, and regulatory process changes.
• Lead payroll workstreams for HRIS implementations, upgrades, integrations, testing, process redesign, and change management.
• Develop payroll reporting, compliance metrics, workforce cost analysis, and analytical insights for leadership.
• Partner with HR, Finance, Accounting, Benefits, IT, Project Controls, and business leaders on payroll initiatives, acquisitions, organizational changes, and workforce growth.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership responsibility, and 3+ years managing payroll teams.
• Experience processing payroll in a multi-state environment.
• Experience with Workday, Dayforce, or a comparable enterprise payroll or HRIS platform.
• Experience leading or significantly supporting HRIS implementations, conversions, or major system enhancements.
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, payroll accounting, compliance, reporting, analytics, and Microsoft Excel.

Nice to have

• Experience in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction or another project-based professional services organization.
• Certified Payroll Professional designation.
• Experience with multi-entity or multi-country payroll, system integrations, data migration, and process automation.
• Familiarity with Power BI, ERP systems, workforce analytics, and business intelligence reporting.
• Experience supporting acquisitions, organizational scaling, or business transformation.
