TL;DR

Forward Deployed Engineer (Autonomous Drones) (C/C++/Python, PX4): Developing, integrating, and deploying Auterion-powered drone systems across embedded software, cloud infrastructure, avionics, and flight operations with an accent on edge computing, autonomous systems, and customer mission integration. Focus on building reliable communication pipelines, troubleshooting hardware-software integrations, conducting flight testing, and translating mission requirements into field-ready system solutions.

Location: San Francisco, California, United States. U.S. citizenship is required; eligibility for Secret clearance is preferred. Travel is required for integration, testing, and customer deployments.

What you will do

Develop and maintain edge software in C/C++ and Python on Linux platforms including Jetson and Skynode.
Build containerized services with Docker and integrate edge systems with cloud infrastructure.
Implement communication and data pipelines using REST, gRPC, MQTT, WebSockets, and MAVLink.
Configure vehicles, flash firmware, calibrate sensors, manage software releases, and perform system bring-up.
Integrate and troubleshoot avionics, sensors, payloads, communications, and other vehicle systems.
Support flight testing, customer demonstrations, system validation, field deployments, and technical customer engagements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, software, electrical, robotics, mechanical engineering, aviation, or a related field.
5+ years of software engineering experience with strong C/C++, Python, and Linux skills.
Experience with embedded, edge, companion-computer, or IoT platforms and PX4 or similar autopilot systems.
Knowledge of networking and embedded protocols including CAN, I2C, SPI, and TCP/IP.
Experience with Docker, cloud APIs, distributed systems, and CI/CD.
U.S. citizenship required; strong troubleshooting, communication, customer-facing, and travel readiness skills are required.

Nice to have

MAVLink experience.
Eligibility for Secret clearance.
Experience with UAV flight testing, avionics, flight control, and hardware-software integration.
