TL;DR
Analyst, Market Optimization & Trading (Energy Trading): Supporting trading, hedging, and optimization strategies for ERCOT and PJM power assets with an accent on nodal market analytics, forecasting, and risk management. Focus on building production cost and price forecasting models, analyzing congestion and market exposure, and improving position management and reporting tools.

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid schedule with office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

Salary: $85,000–$95,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual cash bonus

What you will do

  • Support day-ahead, real-time, and term trading, hedging, and optimization strategies for ERCOT and PJM assets.
  • Analyze market exposure, congestion, ancillary services, basis positions, and CRR/FTR auctions.
  • Develop, operate, and maintain production cost and price forecasting models for nodal price and congestion forecasting.
  • Build and automate tools for position management, reporting, trade capture, risk management, and workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain forward price curves, support stochastic risk modeling, and prepare market recaps, outlooks, and presentations.
  • Track ISO market rules and regulatory developments while coordinating with risk, credit, operations, origination, asset management, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, engineering, economics, mathematics, meteorology, or a related quantitative field.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience; prior trading experience is not required.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with an understanding of power markets, including forwards, futures, swaps, and options.
  • Ability to extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets for energy-market trading and risk decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint; Python, SQL, or other coding and statistical tools are beneficial.
  • No visa sponsorship or employment authorization sponsorship is available now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to ERCOT or PJM market structure, day-ahead and real-time markets, CRR/FTRs, or ancillary services.
  • Relevant quantitative coursework, internship, or academic research.
