Associate/Senior Editor (BMC Surgery/BMC Urology)

Location: Hybrid role based in New York, NY or Philadelphia, United States

US annualized base salary: $80,000 for Associate Editor or $95,000 for Senior Editor.

What you will do

• Develop data-driven journal strategies for BMC Surgery and BMC Urology.
• Handle manuscripts and make evidence-based editorial decisions focused on scientific rigor, novelty, relevance, and impact.
• Commission and develop reviews, collections, and supplements in partnership with the scientific community.
• Recruit, onboard, train, and engage Editorial Board Members while organizing board meetings and strategic discussions.
• Investigate publishing and research integrity cases and resolve editorial issues with internal teams.
• Promote journal visibility through website content, blogs, social media, conferences, and networking events.

Requirements

• PhD, MD, or equivalent qualification in surgery, urology, or a related discipline.
• Substantial scientific publishing editorial experience is required for consideration at the Senior Editor level.
• Experience critically evaluating scientific content and assessing manuscripts for rigor, novelty, relevance, and impact.
• Strong decision-making, written and verbal communication, relationship management, collaboration, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity, adapt to changing business needs, and balance short-term deadlines with long-term strategic goals.
