Data Journalism Summer Intern

Location: New York, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US. Internship runs from June 7, 2027 to August 13, 2027.

Salary: $22 per hour for 40 hours per week.

hirify.global is an international business news organisation producing reporting, analysis, visual journalism, and digital content for a global business readership.

What you will do

• Source, collect, and clean data for news stories and other editorial projects.
• Create data graphics and perform analyses, often under deadline pressure.
• Collaborate with US data journalism colleagues and data teams in London.
• Work with beat reporters to conceive and produce effective graphics.
• Pitch and produce original pieces for editors in New York and London.

Requirements

• Experience creating clear and engaging graphics using tools such as Flourish, Datawrapper, or ggplot2.
• Experience analysing datasets in a journalism context.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Familiarity with US data sources, particularly financial, economic, and political data.
• Interest in data journalism and some experience with data and data graphics.
• US work authorization is required.

Nice to have

• News reporting and writing experience.
• Programming fluency in any language.
• Knowledge of business, economics, and financial markets.
