SW Engineer (AI)

Location: Austin, TX or the Greater Austin metropolitan area; hybrid work with at least 3 days in the office. The role requires 5–10% travel and is performed in an office setting.

Salary: $86,500–$134,400 USD per year, with possible bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify commercial or end-user applications.
• Write production code, complete programming tasks, and test and troubleshoot applications.
• Build AI-enabled applications using LangChain, RAG architectures, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, and agentic AI patterns.
• Design and implement production APIs with FastAPI, Pydantic validation, authentication, and streaming responses.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native containerized applications.
• Document installation and maintenance procedures, gather requirements, and support estimates, budgets, and schedules.

Requirements

• Must be based in Austin, Texas, or the Greater Austin metropolitan area.
• Bachelor's degree or at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java or Python, including async/await patterns, type hints, Pydantic v2, and high-performance serialization with orjson.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain, RAG architectures, LLM API integration, prompt engineering, agentic AI patterns, intent classification, and NLP pipelines.
• Experience with production APIs, authentication methods such as OAuth2, API keys, or mTLS, and streaming responses.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement with at least 3 days in the office and travel 5–10% of the time.

Nice to have

• Experience with Model Context Protocol, JSON-RPC 2.0, REST APIs, Server-Sent Events, and agent-to-agent communication.
• Experience with technical documentation, software testing, troubleshooting, and installation and maintenance procedures.
• Experience gathering requirements from users or stakeholders.
• Practical use of Generative AI models for code development, including ChatOpenAI, token management, and streaming.
