Sr. Associate Counsel (Fintech)

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa; at least 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

• Serve as a go-to legal advisor for Value-Added Services, Products, Marketing, Commercial and Money Movement, and Sourcing matters across CEMEA.
• Advise business teams on solution structuring, legislative requirements, regulatory assessments, new products and services, marketing activities, and contracting.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and manage regional templates and standard documents.
• Monitor regulatory developments, assess their business impact, and coordinate outside counsel when required.
• Review external communications and presentations while supporting legal process optimization, automation, standardization, and contract management.
• Use AI tools and capabilities to improve legal efficiency and resource optimization.

Requirements

• Law degree and qualification allowing in-house legal practice in the applicable jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of post-qualification experience with an international law firm or multinational organization.
• Strong commercial contract drafting, review, negotiation, and legal assessment skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English.
• Ability to provide balanced legal and commercial risk advice, work cross-functionally, operate independently, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• Must work from the Johannesburg office at least 3 days per week.

• Experience in the payments industry and advertising.
• Experience working in a multinational or highly matrixed organization.
