Java Engineer - Payments and Settlement Services (Fintech)

Location: Bucharest, Romania; hybrid work from home or the Bucharest office

What you will do

• Develop user stories for the Controlled Liquidity Intraday Queue (CLIQ) solution.
• Write Java code, unit tests, and support user acceptance testing.
• Own delivery of user stories from analysis through release and production support.
• Demonstrate completed work to user groups and coordinate delivery across teams in Bucharest, Amsterdam, Mumbai, and Manila.
• Participate in Scrum ceremonies, including stand-ups, retrospectives, refinements, and reviews.
• Ensure delivery complies with ING IT risk requirements and documentation standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Java development experience, including Java 25.
• Working knowledge of Kafka, Spring, and Spring Boot.
• Experience with CI/CD tools, XML, XSL, XSD, TDD, and BDD.
• Strong analysis and communication skills, with an open attitude toward feedback.
• Experience with Scrum and agile ways of working.
• Advanced English is required.

Nice to have

• Relational database development experience, particularly with Oracle.
• Experience with OTEL solutions and containerization platforms such as OpenShift or Kubernetes.
• Project experience in financial-market group treasury.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT-related field.
