TL;DR
Lead Detection & Response Engineer (Cybersecurity): Leading cyber security investigations and a team of engineers responsible for identifying, investigating and responding to security incidents with an accent on detection engineering, threat hunting, incident containment and cyber resilience. Focus on establishing security engineering standards, shaping detection and response capabilities, and coaching engineers through complex investigations and proactive defence activities.

Location: Hybrid, with at least two days per week or 40% of the time at an office in Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds or Manchester, United Kingdom

Salary: £92,701–£109,060 per year

What you will do

  • Lead and coordinate cyber security investigations, including analysis, containment, remediation and lessons learned.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers during incidents, investigations, threat-led activities and proactive cyber defence.
  • Develop and continuously improve detection and response capabilities to strengthen cyber resilience.
  • Act as a technical authority for security engineering, influencing policies, standards, roadmaps and investment decisions.
  • Lead, coach and develop Detection & Response Engineers within a high-performing team.
  • Participate in an on-call rota.

Requirements

  • Strong security engineering capability with experience in security operations, cyber defence, detection and response, or incident response.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing technical colleagues.
  • Strong understanding of incident response methodologies, attacker behaviour and cyber attack lifecycles.
  • Experience in threat hunting, investigations and cyber defence activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, risk assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

  • Experience in digital forensics activities and investigations.
  • Experience shaping cyber security policies, standards or secure design patterns.
  • Experience automating operational processes to improve detection and response effectiveness.
