Youth Education Specialist (YESOL)

Location: New York City, United States. Must be based in or willing to work from the New York City office. The role follows a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 remote; Mini-NYSA and NYSA require in-person work Monday–Friday at a New York City public school. School-year programming runs Tuesday–Saturday, including in-person Saturdays from 9am–5pm and typical Tuesday–Friday hours of 11am–7pm.

Pay rate: $27.50 per hour.

What you will do

• Lead Youth English for Speakers of Other Languages classes for middle-school and high-school students.
• Create and improve ESOL curricula, prepare class materials, and update syllabi based on student needs.
• Manage student referrals, intake, English assessments, attendance tracking, case notes, surveys, and program-impact data.
• Recruit, supervise, and develop Youth ESOL interns by assigning tasks and reviewing their work.
• Lead Saturday parent ESOL classes and support Mini-NYSA and NYSA planning, instruction, staffing, and training.
• Coordinate student assessments, report cards, caregiver-teacher conferences, field trips, and other academic program activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant field; a master’s degree in education is preferred.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
• Must be based in or willing to work from the New York City office and available for regular Saturday and evening programming.
• Experience with data collection and analysis, strong organization, attention to detail, and effective written and oral communication.
• Strong command of Microsoft Suite, G Suite, Canva, and other digital platforms.
• Cultural competence and cross-cultural or overseas experience are required; experience with immigrant populations is highly desirable.

Nice to have

• Classroom teaching experience, especially in TESOL and both in-person and online settings.
• Second-language proficiency in a relevant language such as Spanish, French, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Arabic, Tibetan, Russian, Haitian Creole, Ukrainian, or Mandarin.
