TL;DR
Front-End Developer (Section 508 Accessibility) (JavaScript/Vue): Building and validating accessible front-end interfaces that comply with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards with an accent on screen reader compatibility, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, and ARIA implementation. Focus on performing accessibility audits and remediation, integrating automated checks into CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating with Agile product and engineering teams.

Location: United States citizenship required; candidates must hold a current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph.

Annual salary: $130,000–$270,000, depending on years of experience.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain front-end components and user interfaces compliant with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards.
  • Perform manual and automated accessibility testing with JAWS and other assistive technologies, remediating keyboard, focus, ARIA, contrast, and semantic HTML issues.
  • Conduct accessibility audits, document findings, and produce reports for agency compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers, developers, system engineers, QA, DevOps, and product owners to incorporate accessibility into the design process.
  • Integrate automated accessibility testing tools such as axe-core, Pa11y, and Lighthouse into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and communicate accessibility requirements and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with a favorable polygraph and U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; a master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Front-end application development experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, preferably Vue.
  • Hands-on JAWS testing experience and familiarity with other assistive technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 508, WCAG 2.1/2.2 Levels A/AA, ARIA authoring practices, semantic HTML, accessible forms, keyboard navigation, and focus management.
  • Experience with accessibility auditing tools, Git, Jira, and Confluence.

Nice to have

  • Experience producing VPATs or Accessibility Conformance Reports for federal agencies.
  • Experience integrating automated accessibility checks into CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI/CD.
  • Experience with Cypress or similar automated UI and accessibility testing tools.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud architecture and deployment.
  • Knowledge of government agency reporting and dissemination policies.
