Manager, Storyboard Department (SFD / Cinematics)

Location: Hybrid role based at the home studio in Irvine, California, with some onsite work and some work from home.

Salary: $99,200–$183,520 annual base pay in the U.S.; incentive compensation may also apply.

What you will do

• Manage the artistic and technical operations of the storyboard department in a fast-paced production environment.
• Lead, mentor, and support the career growth of storyboard artists through feedback and development planning.
• Partner with cinematic directors and stakeholders to carry creative vision through the animatic process.
• Assign artists to projects, support staffing plans, hire and onboard new artists, and review portfolios.
• Coordinate with writing, editorial, previz, and technology departments to prevent production delays and provide required tools and hardware.
• Manage administrative responsibilities including absence management, contract extensions, performance reviews, learning initiatives, and team engagement activities.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience managing a creative team of artists.
• Experience in TV or feature animation; film and gaming experience is beneficial.
• Professional work demonstrating strong visual storytelling and expert knowledge of composition, camera, cinematography, staging, lenses, pacing, and continuity.
• Strong understanding of pre-production and story development, including estimating sequence timelines and converting feedback into actionable milestones.
• Strong draftsmanship, communication, organization, project management, recruitment, career development, salary administration, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Degree in Film, Animation, or Fine Arts, plus advanced knowledge of Flix, Cintiq, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, and Photoshop.

• Blender 3D knowledge.
