TL;DR
Software Backend Engineer (Java) (Fintech/Microservices): Designing, developing, testing, releasing, and monitoring Java backend components for a fully online banking application with an accent on Spring, microservices, APIs, and software quality. Focus on building resilient services, managing environments and CI/CD pipelines, solving production issues, and maintaining performance across the broader application architecture.
Location: Madrid, Spain; hybrid work with days agreed between working from home and the ING Madrid office

What you will do
- Design, develop, and test backend application components that meet functionality, quality, and performance requirements.
- Deliver production-ready software using appropriate technologies and development practices, including documentation and configuration.
- Support production by analyzing and fixing software defects.
- Contribute to technical discipline and collaborate with cross-functional technical chapters and squad members.
- Handle coding, story refinement, environment management, releases, and monitoring.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience with a similar technical stack.
- Strong Java 8/11/17/21 and Spring experience, including Spring Boot, MVC, Core, Security, and dependency injection.
- Experience with microservices, hexagonal architecture, RESTful APIs, API composition, OpenAPI, and Swagger.
- Knowledge of clean code, SOLID, design patterns, software craftsmanship, DDD, and testing with JUnit, Mockito, MockMvc, WireMock, and contract testing.
- Experience with Maven, JPA, Oracle, JDBC, Git, Docker, OpenShift or Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps.
- Excellent spoken and written English is required. Experience with Agile teams using Scrum, Kanban, or XP is also required.
Nice to have
- Microservices patterns such as Circuit Breaker, API Gateway, and Service Discovery, plus feature flags.
- Retail banking, DevOps, database migration, monitoring, logging, and security experience.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Ansible, BDD, Selenium, Cucumber, Akka, Scala, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Cassandra, or MongoDB.
