Design Engineer (Expansion)

Location: Remote in the United States; remote work is expected to take place regularly from home rather than a Stripe office. A remote location is defined as 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from a Stripe office.

Salary: $157,300–$235,900 annual US base salary.

What you will do

• Create and maintain new public-facing experiences for Stripe.com in collaboration with designers and partners.
• Prototype and implement web animations and interaction-heavy product launch materials.
• Build polished end-user experiences that solve complex problems across commonly used browsers and devices.
• Use, maintain, and extend Stripe’s design systems and shared libraries.
• Integrate the web platform with self-serve authoring and experimentation tools.
• Pair with, mentor, and collaborate with other design engineers while contributing to a culture of technical and design excellence.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant web front-end development or creative technology experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company.
• Advanced knowledge of modern HTML and CSS.
• Experience writing clear, elegant code in a team environment.
• A portfolio demonstrating design work and frontend code, such as design systems, engaging microsites, Figma plugins, WebGL experiments, or CSS art.
• Experience designing and building public-facing websites that work effectively across common browsers and devices.

Nice to have

• Understanding of typography, layout, balance, proportion, and other formal design elements.
• Proficiency with React, especially interactions, animation, performance, and polish.
• Experience with A/B testing, synthetic monitoring, or accessibility testing.
