Member of Technical Staff - AI Networking

Location: Mountain View, United States. Employees living within the applicable distance of a designated Microsoft office are expected to work from the office at least four days per week.

Salary: USD $119,800–$234,700 per year across the U.S.; separate ranges apply to San Francisco Bay Area and New York City locations, as well as IC5-level roles.

What you will do

• Design and scale distributed Ethernet and InfiniBand fabrics for hyperscale AI training clusters.
• Develop RoCE transport, congestion-control, ECN/WRED/DCTCP tuning, and lossless networking mechanisms.
• Plan fabric topology, model network performance, and define scaling strategies.
• Build telemetry, observability, reliability engineering, and automated troubleshooting systems.
• Bring up AI training and inference clusters, benchmark performance, and perform root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Azure, Microsoft AI, datacenter, silicon, and networking partners on production infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, plus 6+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
• Coding experience in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, or comparable languages.
• Experience with high-performance networking, distributed systems, or AI cluster infrastructure.
• Ability to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days per week when located within the applicable distance.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 8+ years of technical engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of technical engineering experience.
• Experience with network design, routing, congestion control, telemetry, and large-scale AI workloads.
