Senior Financial Analyst, R&D Finance

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid with 2–3 in-office days per week and additional on-site presence as needed. Must reside in the San Diego area and be able to commute to corporate offices.

Base salary: $82,500–$123,700 per year, plus eligibility for variable cash programs and, where applicable, equity.

What you will do

• Partner with R&D functions, programs, and leadership while providing financial insight and disciplined challenge.
• Manage annual planning, quarterly forecasting, monthly close, long-range planning inputs, and recurring management reporting.
• Analyze operating expenses, headcount, purchase orders, accruals, and capital expenditures; explain variances and recommend actions.
• Use AI and advanced analytics tools to improve forecasting, automate routine processes, and generate actionable insights.
• Translate R&D activity, program scope, capital timing, and financial trade-offs into leadership-ready narratives.
• Coordinate capital planning and tracking, including equipment receipt timing, construction-in-progress recognition, and depreciation timing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Typically 5+ years of related professional experience, or 3 years with a relevant master’s degree.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, reporting, and management presentations.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Must reside in the San Diego area and commute to the corporate offices; hybrid attendance of 2–3 days per week is required.

Nice to have

• MBA, CPA, CFA, or another relevant advanced degree or professional credential.
• Experience supporting R&D, product development, portfolio management, capital planning, or life sciences/genomics organizations.
• Experience with SAP, OneStream, Cognos, or similar enterprise financial systems.
• Experience using AI-enabled tools to improve analysis, reporting, or documentation workflows.
