Lead DevOps Engineer (AWS)

Location: Remote within the United States only; foreign locations and foreign IP addresses are blocked, and personal VPN connections are prohibited. The role is based in Reston, Virginia, United States.

Salary: $131,256–$223,134 per year.

What you will do

• Own and operate multi-account AWS environments across development, QA, staging, and production.
• Develop Terraform and Terragrunt infrastructure automation, including remote state, drift detection, approvals, imports, and recovery procedures.
• Administer Amazon EKS and Kubernetes resources with Helm, Argo CD, ApplicationSets, and GitOps automation.
• Build GitHub Actions pipelines with OIDC authentication, self-hosted runners, image delivery, environment promotion, approvals, and rollbacks.
• Operate SQL Server on Amazon RDS, including backups, recovery, monitoring, restore testing, and AWS DMS migration workflows.
• Lead security, observability, incident response, disaster recovery, cost optimization, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

• Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
• The position must be performed within the United States.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 8+ years of DevOps, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or site reliability experience, including 5+ years operating production workloads on AWS.
• 5+ years with Terraform and infrastructure as code, 4+ years administering production Kubernetes environments, and 3+ years building CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong Linux, scripting, AWS networking, IAM, troubleshooting, and incident-response skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Terragrunt, EKS Auto Mode, AWS Pod Identity, Argo CD ApplicationSets, AWS Controllers for Kubernetes, or Kubernetes Resource Orchestrator.
• Experience with SQL Server on Amazon RDS, AWS DMS, disaster recovery, and database performance monitoring.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, centralized logging, alerting, and service-level objectives.
• Experience with SonarQube, DAST, software composition analysis, container scanning, SBOMs, and policy-based release gates.
• Experience troubleshooting Java and Spring Boot applications, REST or GraphQL APIs, Maven, JVM diagnostics, and containerized deployments.
