Staff Data Engineer, Data Platform

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid schedule with in-office work at least 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Base salary: $182,000–$228,000 annually, plus equity and benefits

Builds and operates a global car-sharing marketplace connecting travelers and local vehicle hosts.

What you will do

• Define and execute the data engineering roadmap with cross-functional team members.
• Design and implement scalable, reliable data platform infrastructure and pipelines for product, engineering, data science, marketing, customer operations, and finance.
• Define canonical data models and establish a unified data vision across the ecosystem.
• Implement, operate, and support cloud-based workflow orchestration using tools such as Airflow.
• Improve data platform tooling and infrastructure to increase productivity and reduce operational overhead.
• Mentor junior engineers and design robust data security architectures and controls.

Requirements

• 7+ years of relevant experience and a strong software engineering background.
• Experience developing tested, reusable code frameworks and libraries and building ETL frameworks.
• Experience with Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster and cloud data platforms across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficiency with Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of data protection standards and security frameworks.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco office at least 3 days per week on a hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Spark or another big data processing framework.
