Principal Database Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Boston or Atlanta, United States

Base salary: $143,000–$186,330 per year, depending on location, experience, and skills. Total compensation also includes a discretionary bonus of up to 20% and retirement contributions.

What you will do

• Design and operate cloud-native database platforms on AWS with a focus on scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
• Build self-service infrastructure capabilities using Terraform, CI/CD, and Git-based workflows.
• Define reusable platform patterns, standards, guardrails, and secure-by-design practices across a multi-cloud environment.
• Implement SRE practices including observability, performance tuning, incident response, and database reliability engineering.
• Partner with architecture, application, data, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver practical platform solutions.
• Evaluate emerging database technologies and enable AI, analytics, vector search, and modern data architecture use cases.

Requirements

• 8–10 years of experience in database, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Production experience with PostgreSQL and AWS-managed database services such as DynamoDB and OpenSearch.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure automation.
• Strong understanding of database performance at scale, including query optimization, indexing, and data distribution.
• Ability to work independently, communicate technical trade-offs clearly, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure or GCP in addition to AWS.
• Familiarity with Neptune, DocumentDB, MongoDB, or other graph, document, and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with vector search, pgvector, RAG pipelines, embedding stores, Databricks, or BigQuery.
• Knowledge of cloud security, FinOps, SRE, TOGAF, architecture reviews, or relational databases such as MSSQL and Oracle.
